Your job sounds very challenging and satisfying. I have a good friend who was in the Navy and he was an aircraft mechanic as well. It was interesting to see how sharing a meaningful purpose is very important to the morale and the productivity of a team. Ineffective leadership as you stated here can transform people from hard-working, highly skilled and efficient workers to people who slack off their duties.

I have a friend who works in the advertising industry here in the New York City. She went to graduate school to become video and film editor, but at her current job, she wasn’t really doing any editing, she is basically stitching footage together like a robot day in and day out. So she is very unhappy about her job, although to a lot of people, she’s got good pay, benefit, and it is a very fun company to work for. The management are very nice people as well. So I agree with you, one’s productivity at work is strongly related to whether he or she is doing the kind of job she or he is passionate about.
